Global Groove 2013 | Purdue University Calumet | Ballet Folklorico de Santa Maria
Global Groove 2013, a celebration of cultures on campus and around the world, had many cultures including, Irish, Mexican, Chinese, Saudi, Indian, come together for an attendance record-breaking party hosted by Student Activities and the International Programs Office at Purdue University Calumet.
The Hughes Academy of Irish Dance exhibited a few Irish jigs and ballets. If you have never seen them before, the dancers are not allowed to use their arms and wear tap shoes while dancing.
Ballet Folklorico de Santa Maria of East Chicago, danced to music and wore dresses representing the Mexican states of Sinaloa and Jalisco.
Tandoor Indian Cuisine, Ali Baba Market, Pepe’s Mexican Restaurant, and China Buffet provided foods from around the world for all of the guests delight.
A teacher at Purdue University Calumet led Zumba for 30 minutes to songs like “Sexy and I Know It,” “Muevelo,” and “Danza Kuduro.” Two students showed off some breakdancing moves this year, a member of Alpha Psi Lambda sang a couple of songs, and a member of Gamma Phi Omega instructed guests on how to merengue. Happy birthday was sung in Indian than American for a member of the International Programs office.
International Programs Office and Student Activities would like to thank everyone who came together to support the Global Groove 2013 to include Alpha Psi Lambda, Chinese Student Association, French Club, Zeta Sigma Chi, English Learning Program, Saudi Student Association, Gamma Phi Omega, Hughes Academy of Irish Dance, and Ballet Folklorico de Santa Maria.
