A spaghetti dinner benefit for Douglas Rachowicz showed the communities support and generosity for an American Hero. The event was held on March 24th, 2012 at the American Legion Post 232, Hammond, Indiana.
The eagle riders, a U.S. Senator, AVMRA Chapter 1 (American Veterans Motorcycle Riders Association) and many others came out to support Rachowicz, a local veteran from the 713th Engineer Company out of Valparaiso, Indiana who was the only survivor from an IED (improvised explosive device) blast January 6th in Khandahar, Afghanistan.
As the 2nd benefit for Doug, it seemed to go over very well with everyone. U.S. Senator Frank MrVan attended along with North Township Board Member Richard Novak. 50/50 raffles, wine baskets, a Hooters calendar and 100 wing party, a booze bucket, gun cleaning kit and more were raffled off throughout the evening to help raise money for Doug and his family. A total of over $5000 was raised to help support Doug and his family during his stay at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
The American Flag fondant cake was donated by Tender Love & Kakes and even a platoon of toy soldiers made their way to the spaghetti dinner on cupcakes that were donated. Paul Segal an AVMRA member and owner of 219 Productions donated his time to provide music and announcements.
The next benefit for PFC Douglas Rachowicz will take place May 5th at Wicker Park in Highland, Indiana. Four bands, a bounce house, disc jockey and more have donated their services for all that attend. An iscoot scooter is the biggest raffle prize valued at over $1500.
